Journeyman Tool & Die Maker
Truform Manufacturing is looking for a Journeyman Tool & Die Maker to join our team!
Position Summary: A Journeyman Tool & Die maker required the ability to troubleshoot and repair dies while in the press and/or perform die removal and repair work on the bench. The goal is to minimize down-time and optimize production levels and part quality. This would involve the repair and maintenance of progressive, transfer and blanking dies.
Qualifications required:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Minimum 12 months of machine tool technology training or equivalent experience
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience with metal stamping dies
- Experience welding common steel and tooling steel is required
- Ability to operate tool room equipment (Mills, Lathes, Surface Grinders, etc.)
- Automotive stamping experience is preferred
- Must be able to read blueprints and use necessary measuring devices to make or modify existing tooling
- Must perform complex machine work involved with the manufacture of gauging, fixtures and tooling to support manufacturing and engineering functions
- Ability to troubleshoot progressive dies in a manufacturing environment
- Must work to close tolerances ensuring quality workmanship on all tool, gages and fixtures
- Must work closely with Engineering to ensure all equipment builds are built to exact specifications
- Strong analytical skills
- Must have ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Essential functions and responsibilities:
- Ability to troubleshoot progressive tooling problems and recommend solutions
- Ensure tooling is able to produce parts to print requirements
- Maintain inventory of perishable tooling, springs, fasteners and supplies in the T&D area
- Must make recommendations to continuously improve the company’s equipment, tool gages and fixtures
- Must make sure tools are sharpened and tools are in good working condition before being placed on shelf or in tool drawer.
- Must repair or request replacement parts as needed
- Provide training and support to less experienced tool makers
- 5S experience in maintaining a clean and organized work area
- Must operate all machinery, tools and equipment in a safe manner
- Must wear all required PPE
- Other duties as assigned

- Must be a motivated self-starter and able to work unsupervised
Physical demands and work environment:
- Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds, climb stairs and stand for long periods of time
- Must be able to work in heat and cold and in a manufacturing environment
- Must have fine motor skills to manipulate small objects
- Must be able to bend, squat and twist
- Must be able to work in a loud environment with ear protection
Performance standards:
- 90-day probationary period
- Annual review
